The Association of Surgical Technologists is proud of our many military members and recognizes that the roots of our profession extend back to World War II. The AST Board of Directors appointed a Military Advisory Committee in 2010 in order to reach out to our service men and women who are working in surgical patient care.
The AST Military Advisory serves as a resource for members who are active military, reserves, and retired.
MAC Purpose Statement
To be the voice of military surgical technologists to promote their service as members of an integrated team of credentialed professionals.
Military Surgical Technology Student Forum
In September 2012, AST in partnership with the NBSTSA sponsored the second Military Student Forum at the METC campus, Fort Sam Houston, San Antonio, Texas. This inaugural event proved to be another great success with over 100 military surgical technology students attending to participate in lectures on robotic surgery, treating burn injuries and preparing for the national certification examination.
ATTENTION MILITARY MEMBERS OF AST
44th Annual National Conference
An important reminder to those who will be attending the 44th Annual National Conference in New Orleans, LA, that the AST Military Advisory Committee (MAC) will have an exhibit table during the exhibit hours on Thursday, May 23 from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. and on Friday, May 24 from 9:00 a.m. to noon.
Please stop by the exhibit table to chat with MAC members about the activities of the committee in support of AST’s military members, provide ideas and suggestions for the MAC. Additionally, the AST military coin will be available for purchase at the booth.
IMPORTANT!!! MILITARY MEMBERS PLEASE WEAR YOUR UNIFORM TO THE OPENING CEREMONY OF THE AST ANNUAL NATIONAL CONFERENCE!!! The MAC members will be welcoming those in uniform and providing assistance to the reserved seating for military members.
