Election statement

Thanks for such an exciting two years! I sincerely enjoyed being your representative on the AST Board as a director. As with any learning experience, it was a ton of work (with a little awkwardness thrown in) but was also extremely gratifying.

When you placed your trust in me in 2006, my goals were simple. I wanted to “enhance the profession” with my enthusiasm and a desire and love for the field of surgical technology. I also wanted to learn more about you and your stories about why surgical technology was your career choice. I say career because being a Certified Surgical Technologist is more than a job.

As I look back, I’m very satisfied. Over the past two years, we have established a Code of Ethics and Behavior, which I believe is a major accomplishment. Also over my short two years on the AST Board, membership has continued to increase, both on the national level and on the state level. We have especially seen an increase in the student membership.

But even with all the successful things that have happened during these two years, I’m not done!

During my first year, I was appointed to chair the Foundation for Surgical Technology Committee. At our conference last year, we awarded the highest amount ever to assist students in their quest to become Certified Surgical Technologists and to assist existing practitioners who furthered their education or went overseas as part of a medical mission.

We also were able to secure some large donations to the Foundation including more money for 2008, as well as purchase much needed surgical instrumentation for the preconference Wound Closure workshop.

Finally, we have re-branded the Foundation and set goals to building the future of AST with our “Hard Hat Heroes” campaign.

I’m asking for your vote to see these above listed accomplishments continue to grow and to go further by creating an easier and friendlier environment for all AST members to get involved.

I sincerely enjoyed working for you, and feel I work well with the AST Board of Directors. I look forward to seeing you or working with you all again soon. Thanks in advance for your continued support!

Sincerely, Crit Fisher, CST
