Election statement

Hello, my name is Rebecca Pieknik, and I am seeking election to the 2008 AST Board of Directors. Our profession is changing and our association must change with it. I seek the opportunity to be an emissary of that change. I believe our profession has come a long way in a short time due to the talents of our leaders, but there is more that needs to be done. I am committed to enhancing the profession to build our membership to communicate more effectively to educate the public to the importance of our role in patient care and bridge the gap that exists with other professions that may impede the care of the patient.

Service and involvement at every level in Michigan’s State Assembly has granted me an in-depth understanding of our members’ needs and problems, as well as the strengths and weaknesses of our state assemblies. Having worked on legislation in Michigan, I am able to share that knowledge on a national level to aid every state in our organization to pursue its goals regarding legislation and the recognition our profession deserves. We must be more effective in delivering a positive message about our contributions to patient care.

My experience and contributions as an educator have provided me the ability to see the course we must take to prepare future surgical technologists to be successful in their chosen career path. Our foundation must be strong to survive, but our future leaders must be stronger.

If elected, I will continue to be committed to enhancing and strengthening our profession. The Board of Directors acts as the liaison between the organization and its members. I am asking that you consider me as your voice in shaping our future. I have the enthusiasm, energy and the unbreakable determination to represent you, as we move forward in a positive direction. Thank you for your time and consideration. Together we can attain the unattainable!
