I am a new grad and I have an interview soon. I have no experience,
but my 500 hours and 120 cases I did during my extern. Any suggestions?

Honestly, I was you
two months ago. I’m now working at
an incredible hospital. I was honest
with them, but confident: “I know
I have less professional experience
than some other candidates, BUT …“
and I told them about my passion,
my attitude and why I want to make a
living helping other people. I got the
job. I’m not saying that will always be
the case, but that was my experience.

Stay calm and be
yourself and keep confident.
Althea Neely
Go with confidence.
I was a straight-out-of-school grad.
Went on my first interview and they
called me the same day with perks.
Look your interviewer in the eye. You
will do fine.
Velia Cardenas
Be yourself. Be hon-
est. They know that as a new grad
you don’t have much experience, but
your enthusiasm will make up for it.
Kathryn Armao-Rybicki
You learn
on the job anyway. Just show them
that you are willing to work hard and
learn. The key is listen!!!

I’m two months
into my first job as a new grad. In
my interview, I stressed that I am
a hard-worker, motivated, ready to
put my time in and earn the respect
of the staff. Their eyes lit up when I
said that! When they ask what your
favorite specialty is pick a challeng-
ing one. I told them vascular! Good
luck!

That is consid-
ered your experience, your clinical
cases 120. Don’t be afraid to ask
questions.
Sharon Fenwick
Just be yourself
and totally honest with them!! Go in
there very confident and sell your-
self!!
Felipe Sandoval
Be positive and
know your strength and weakness.
Be proud of what you learned, but
be sure to understand that was a
baseline of knowledge that will be
enhanced by preceptors, and experi-
ence yours and theirs. Learn from
everyone and every case.
Melissa Ruth Bruton
Your experi-
ence is your 120 cases. Also, how
many facilities did you do clinicals
in and what specialties did you get
the 120 cases in. Yes, you are a new
grad, but you are well-rounded due to
the specialties that you were required
to scrub in. Think of your strengths
that you have as an individual.
Linda Gadoury Deasley
Since you
don’t have the experience sell your
other attributes. Good work ethic, de-
pendable, eager to learn, gets along
well with others, etc.
Jean Dudley Hill
Let them know you
want to work and even though you
lack hospital experience, you have
the desire to learn and can be an as-
set to them.
Nic Karnowski
Personality, personal-
ity, personality. They know you don’t
have experience out of school from
your resume. They’re going to hire
you based on personality and prob-
ably ask you some questions about
basic cases.
Amy Nicole
Be honest and know
you’ll do fine! Just tell them you’re
willing and eager to learn! They love
that because new grads don’t have
“bad“ habits yet and you’re train-
able. Be sure to fit in the words “I’m
eager to learn and TRAINABLE with
no bad habits.”
Jk Martinez
Stay calm, smile, be hon-
est, use common sense when answer-
ing questions. Don’t try to find an-
swers to things you don’t know, just
say sorry but I do not know. Look at
the eyes of your interviewers, and be
confident of yourself and your experi-
ence as a student. Find out what your
strengths are and your weakness are,
and tell them you are eager to learn.
Be courteous and polite.
Lilbitof Michele Davis
Sell your
strongest points and express an
eagerness to learn and you’re a great
team player with great communica-
tion skills.
Jessica Lang
I was asked how to do a
lap chole start to finish in my inter-
view. I was caught off guard, but my
manager said I answered better than
some people who work there, lol. Just
be yourself, honest, confident, eager,
but not desperate and have a couple
questions to ask them at the end.
Stephanie Long-Alexander
Look
her/him in the eyes!
Diana Bravo
Sell yourself. What are
your strengths/accomplishments thus
far in life. Think why you wanted
to be tech, how can you be an asset
to their company and what are your
goals; these are just a few things
they will be looking for. Do a little
research on the company you’re in-
terviewing for and maybe the person.
Think about who inspires you, and
what struggles you have had to over-
come. Be positive.
Andrea Christopherson
Look at what
you have done in past jobs and in
your life in general. Life experience
is important, too. Did you work some-
place and take no sick days? You are
reliable. Did you show up on time?
You are punctual.
Justine Bushore
Make sure to
include on your resume those hours
and what specialties you scrubbed in.
