Chris Keegan Fund Chris Keegan, CST, FAST, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, December 1, 2017, in Evansville, Indiana. Chris became a member of the Association of Surgical Technologists in 1974, the same year she earned her surgical technologist certification, and began her lifelong commitment to the profession of surgical technology, education and students. She received the highest honor from the Association of Surgical Technologists in 2006 when she was in the first group of recipients to be awarded the Fellow of the Association of Surgical Technologists (FAST) distinction. She served on the Accreditation Review Council on Education in Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (ARC/STSA) Board of Directors from 1997-2003, and as chair from 1999-2003. She also served on the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assistants Board of Directors (NBSTSA) from 2003-2009, followed by her service on the AST Board of Directors from 2009-2013. As a practitioner, she specialized in otolaryngology, head and neck and plastic surgery. Chris was a tenured and beloved professor at Vincennes University and was appointed chair of the program in 1991. She also was a prolific author and contributed to the AST Core Curriculum for Surgical Technology, 4th edition; the CST Certifying Exam Study Guide, 1st and 2nd editions; the Core Curriculum for Surgical Assisting, 2nd edition; and Pharmacology for the Surgical Technologist, 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th editions.

She was an inspirational leader, and her warmth, laughter and contagious energy will be greatly missed.

In celebration of a life that was taken too soon. Chris was my Surgical Technology instructor at VU and was one of the BEST teachers I have ever known. This saddens me greatly. I will say a prayer for her family and friends, you are in my thoughts. Godspeed Chris. xo
