    The Association of Surgical Technologists (AST) was founded in 1969 by the American College of Surgeons, AORN and the American Hospital Association and is the premier membership organization for surgical technologists. AST represents the interests of more than 80,000 surgical technologists, and surgical assistants. Its mis­sion is to enhance the profession to ensure quality patient care through continuing education, development of professional standards, profession-related services, authoring practice-related textbooks and legislative engagement.
